Free RPG Resources

Here's a list of links to RPG stuff I like that is freely available.

Note: I am not sure how accessible these are from a screen-reader - if you need help with these, please contact me on Mastodon and I'll get you sorted.

OSR Rulebooks

OSRIC

A recreation of 1st edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. The website is also full of goodies useful not just in OSRIC, but other OSR style games as well. Highly recommended!

Basic Fantasy

As it's name suggests, it is a clone of Basic D&D, specifically the 1983 version, aka Red Box. Like OSRIC, the website also has useful resources. Multiple languages are also available for the core and beginner books.

Labyrinth Lord

Advanced Edition Companion

A clone of Basic D&D as well, this time the 1981 version. I've also linked the supplemental book that covers Expert D&D. These are the no-art editions.

Rules-Lite RPGs

Ironsworn

A dark fantasy game based on the Powered by the Apocalypse system. Easily customized, and fully playable solo as well. The core book is free. Highly recommended!

Mörk Borg

A lighter (and darker?) take on the OSR style, with an over the top black metal theme. This is the text-only version. Lots of free homebrew content can be found on itch.io and elsewhere.

Microlite20

A variant of the d20/3.x OGL rulesets that is meant to be as small as possible and freely modifiable. There are tons of different flavors of this ruleset, from OSR to D&D 5th edition versions and many more.

FATE Core

An easily customizable system to play virtually any setting. Also available as FATE Accelerated for streamlined beginner play, or FATE Condensed if you want pocket-sized rules. All are free, and the site has useful links for the system as well.

Solo RPGs and Tools

Quill

A single-player letter writing game with many free supplements.

CRGE

UNE

BOLD

These three tools comprise a GM emulator, NPC emulator, and a generator for player backgrounds. They are system-agnostic and free.
